The 2009 Annual General Meeting was an opportunity to look back on the 25 year history of Bicentennial Branch since its first meeting on May 31, 1984. An article in the first branch newsletter Summer 1984 states, "On March 24, 1984 Dominion Headquarters granted a Charter to the newly formed branch of the United Empire Loyalists' Association. Our new branch is officially known as the Bicentennial Branch in keeping with the commemoration of the Province's Bicentennial Celebrations in 1984 and becomes the 24th Branch of the Canadian wide association. It is hoped that our branch will undertake in local research in order that our Loyalist heritage can be preserved for years to come."

At our May 9th meeting we were very proud to recognize one of the charter members of our branch, Margaret Lewis UE, who is still actively involved on the branch executive and is a wonderful source of information on local history.

A number of branch members participated in the meeting by bringing family treasures of historical significance and sharing their stories.

In honour of our 25th branch anniversary we announced the near completion of the installation of a historical plaque marking the site of the first Loyalist land grant in the New Settlement. Donations to this branch project are still being accepted. Your commitment to the mission of our Association to preserve, promote and celebrate the history and traditions of the Loyalist epoch in Canadian history is greatly appreciated. Your donation to the placing of this plaque on Main Street and Division Street in Kingsville provides a lasting reminder of the contributions made by our Loyalist ancestors to the development of the New Settlement and Essex County.

Information on donating to the Bicentennial Branch Special Fund 2009 in support of the historical plaque is available at Any questions may be directed to
